Living in Michigan, I'm surrounded by water. The summer is a great time to go up north and enjoy all of the festivities that water has to offer. Many of these activities are very fun, yet frightening at the same time. The activity I am talking about is water skiing. Watching it and trying to do it are very different. To hold on to a rope and be pulled out of the water using just your body strength, then continuing to be pulled while just being on two boards and trying to keep your balance is needless to say, a terrifying task. Especially if you're only in 2nd grade.
My parents always want me to experience new things so they thought this was a prime age to teach me how to ski. My dad was driving the boat while my mom was next to me in the water trying to guide me through the motions. She listed off of things like lean back, but not too much. Also bend your knees but not so much that your knees buckle. Keep your legs close together so your legs don't go apart. Even though I knew all of the right techniques I needed experience in doing all these things. I fell on my face a lot before I even could stay up for ten seconds. All of it was worth it though when I finally got up and could feel the wind in my face and feel like I was flying.
If I hadn't kept trying I would have never felt victorious when I got up and kept my balance. This was one of the first times in my life where I realized that if you keep trying you will succeed.
Here's a video of some funny wipeouts taking place on water. It happens to the best of us.
